Cleaning Solutions - Peracetic Acid PAA based

Andrew Owen
Hi all,

I’m looking for feedback or experiences from anyone who has used peracetic acid (PAA) wipes or PAA mixed solutions for cleaning the external surfaces of dialysis machines.

Specifically, has anyone observed any damage to plastic components when using these products, particularly over an extended period of time? I’m especially interested in experiences with Nikkiso or Nipro dialysis machines, and whether PAA-based cleaning has affected their housings, connectors, or other external plastic parts.

Thanks in advance for any support or shared experience.

Hi Andy,

We have recently moved over to both the PAA wipes and solutions (about 6 weeks ago) . Not noticed any degrading yet, though the platform touch screens (Artis here) benefit from a rinse/wipe over with water after cleaning, they can appear "misty", to be fair they also did to a lesser extent with the old regime of liquid soap/bleach and water.

Hi Andy,

Is it the Enhanced Pods (Clinell) that you're using?
We use Peracide in 3 clinics on Nipro machines which appear to be OK.

Many thanks for the response!

No plastic damage so far? I guess it is too early to tell really.

With other cleaning solutions we have seen plastic components crack and degrade over time, just want to be sure this is safe.
