A hospital housing one of our satellite units is considering using a silver copper ionisation plant to disinfect water supplies. We anticipate the RO should remove the silver and copper ions but does anyone else have experience of this?
They are planning to start this at RFH as well as part of legionella control. We insisted they take the supply for renal from the first break tank - ie before any disinfectants are added. This is whats recommended in the RA/ART guidelines - to absolutely minimise chances of patient harm. After the recent alert about chlorine I'd definitely push for this.

Hi Andy, We disinfect our water, taken from a private bore hole, with Chlorine Dioxide. The feed for the renal plant room is taken before this disinfectant is added. We rationalised that it is better to avoid the problem in the first place that fix the consequences after the fact. Cheers, Gerry
