There's water pouring through my kitchen ceiling...
Over the years of supporting home installations we've had the odd water related incident, ranging from spills, though leaks to the occasional full on flood.
They've been dealt with one way or another, but we seem to have avoided actually committing to paper a policy detailing how we should deal with such situations and who picks up the cost.
What provision do other Units have for such situations? Do you take the bills on the nose, have an insurance policy in place or are your home patients obliged to make their own arrangements?

We ask our patients to inform their insurance company that a Dx machine is being installed. How well that would stand up if they claimed and the insurance company queried it is yet to be tested!!!
Our trust views it as an extension of services in the community and as such is covered by the NHS LA schemes. It has never been tested but I assume if there was a problem caused by trust equipment then our patients would make a claim against us.
I remember it was mentioned in a BRS guidance document for trusts on reimbursement. If patients were having to tell their own insurance companies about equipment the premium may go up, with the trust having to cover the extra, if so then the trust would be paying twice and they already pay into the NHS LA sheme

As I see it, we are asking them to do it at home so it is up to us to a) cover it and b) take measures to prevent it from happening by engineering it out as best we can.
