silver-copper ionisation

John Barnes
I did see a post on the forum on this subject dated 2015, just wondered if any of you have experienced this type of disinfection as a replacement for Chlorine, we have been warned that this may be the case for our systems going forward so looking for information on best testers, I'm not sure on the levels that will be used but hoping that the RO system can remove or would prefiltering be needed, I know that the safest answer is to have the supply to the plant taken pre ionisation not sure how much of a problem that would be at this time

thanks John

Hi John,
I can't recommend strongly enough that you insist on getting renal supply before Ag-Cu dosing. I believe this is recommended in RA/ART Water guidelines after previous incident. If not done then the unit is one human/pump error or valve failure etc away from a serious incident. The engineering exists to get water/fluids to anywhere from anywhere these days.
Best of luck

Re: silver-copper ionisation

Hi John,  good to come across this post as I’ve recently heard it is something our estates is wishing to move to.  Though higher than the RA recommendations for treated water for dialysis, the levels used for the copper-silver ionisation seem to fall well within limits of drinking water and RO units will remove efficiently.

How did your move to this method go?

When I first was made aware if it my initial thoughts went to the silver, as in silver stabilised hydrogen peroxide and a 2008 incident, though looks like a completely different process.  Our change will be taken through the Trust water management group, so I’ll hopefully be better informed once the process and plan has been explained.

Currently my initial thoughts are confirming impact, if any, on plant with supplier, as it will be a change in the incoming water levels. We’ll also look to initially implement more frequent chemical analysis as you would do with any change.

Early days but will try to update this for others who may be involved in the same transition.
