Band 5 On-call

Hi all,
Are there any band 5 Renal Techs out there doing on-call? If so, are the responsibilities the same as the higher band techs?

Hi Paul,

We don't have any Band 5 techs on-call.  We consider it part of being a Band 6.

We take same approach as Ian, no on-call for Band 5's.

We have band 5s on-call. They have the same responsibilities as anyone on-call.

The responsibilty of the decisions that someone on call makes is considered to require a senior technologist's experience here in Manchester - not that what we do is right or wrong, just nice to get different views and perspectives.

When we (Leeds) have had band 5's they were trainees and as such could not be on-call.
Our establishment grade for a Renal Tech is band 6 and that's probably what the deciding factor is, if your establishment grade is a 5 then I guess you can be on-call at that grade.

So much for AfC national parity then.

We've never had an on-call technical service. It's been proposed to help support home HD but only in the form of a telephone advice service.
Our in-centres manage on evenings and weekends by maintaining a 20% spare capacity of HD machines and fully redundant RO's.
On-call won't be necessary when we move to seven day working anyway

Thanks for the info everyone. Our on-call rota has now been changed to include band 5s. In my first week I was called 7 times and attended 3 times at 6:30am. Deep joy.
