HHD install costs

mike.jones
Hi all,

Does anyone wish to share their cost of a HHD install? I’m thinking specifically of the room conversion part.
Plumbing/electrical

Do you supply a floor?
What do you supply as part of a HHD “package”

Water pressure booster pumps and at what pressure do you fit them?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to see what others do.

Kr

Re: HHD install costs

Chris Bates
Hi Mike,

NxStage:  we pay about £1500-2000 for plumbing and electrical works.
We buy and supply the contractors with JG pushfit fittings and additional LLDPE pipe, Metafix flood stopper and Stuart Turner Flomate booster pump(if required)

Contractors fit plumbed drain. water feed, 2 double RCD outlet on its own feed from the consumer unit, and a small square of vinyl to protect the floor from minor spills

Fresenius:  we pay about £2500 -3000 for plumbing and electrical works
We buy and supply Spectrum triple 20" filter with CFB-plus carbons, Coral 10 litre softener @ ~£240 8mm and 6mm PVC hose and Walther couplings and drain couplings (RS 325-0179). If required we supply a Stuart Turner Flomate pump or occasionally a DAB Esybox Mini

Contractors fit plumbed drain and water feed, fitting of triple filter assembly, shelf for water softener, 2 double RCD outlet on its own feed from the consumer unit, Metafix flood stopper and a small square of vinyl to protect the floor from minor spills. If the layout is spread out we may fit a third double RCD socket .

The biggest differences in costs are nearly always due to drains sometimes the drain needs to go a long way or needs a pump - our contractors use a Sanivite 3 as normal domestic Saniflows got blocked with smelly gunk too easily.

Our contractors used to do a lot of work for the trust and are fantastic. They nearly always respond to problems same day even though the hospital work is only a small part of their business.

We use a local removal company to transport the equipment and they have been great too - even getting 5008S machines into loft conversions up rickety spiral stairs. They charge £140 to pick up equipment from us and deliver to the patient.

I'll get more details Mike but in a nutshell this is what we do:

Fresenius 5008S -

Floor
We usually lino the whole floor.  Sometimes patients may request only a small section of a carpeted room doing.

Electrics
• Electrical check by qualified person
Not an option to leave out in our opinion due to the manufacturer’s recommendations and also those of the British Standard 60601-1-11:2015.
To ensure that there is a good and safe electrical connection for the equipment including the integrity of the protective earth.
• Fitting of extra sockets
We find rooms barely have enough sockets for an additional piece of equipment or even the addition of an electric chair.  By providing the sockets we also ensure that medical equipment is only connected to fully checked and safe electrical outlets.
They are fitted at a raised height to make them easily accessible in case of an emergency rather than scraping around a skirting board level.  It also brings the electrical supply above the line of any water connections.
• Fitting an RCD
Convert existing 13amp socket in the room to house a 10 mA RCD (Residual Current Device) and place a waterproof enclosure over it to ensure that the sockets are protected.  Some houses still have the old consumer units with no RCD protection.
• Fitting an emergency light
This was originally fitted to assist patients in the event of a power cut.  Seeing as power cuts are rare these days and that the machines have battery back-up and themselves give off considerable light we felt that after the review we could also omit these from future installations.
We have no secondary earth points fitted and our equipment plugs into a regular 3 pin socket although we tell the patient to only use the sockets that we install.

Water
We provide contractor with 2 10" filter housings and all walthers for drain upstand.  No softeners required up here luckily.  Not had to use and Saniflows or boost pumps yet although we have fitted a few pressure reduction valves. Isolation ball valves are fitted before the filters but we don't fit any leakage detectors currently.  Pipework is done in 15mm copper.  Filter bowls are mounted on a gloss white board.

Machine Movement

We use a local contractor who charges £230 for a machine delivered to the dialysis room whatever floor/location it is.

We usually get same day on next day response from our contractor.

NxStage

Electrics
See above.

Water
• Bring water supply in to the room and provide a hose union connection
As per the guidance from the manufacturer we bring the water supply into the room to avoid injury from tripping when having hoses spanning what may be several rooms.  Most properties that are selected for NxStage are done so because of the lack of room in the first place.  .
• Fit lever ball stop tap
Fitted so the water can be shut off easily especially for people where dexterity may be compromised due to their chronic condition.
• Drainage – Connected to sink waste pipe or drill the wall and take the drain to the grid outside of the property.  A leak free and reliable connection to the drainage system is provided.

Will get confirmation but I think this is around a third of the standard HD installation.

As Ian does.

We actually use the exact same plumber and spark as they do
No polyfloor is fitted for NxStage installs though.

costs around 2k for conventional HD, floor size being the biggest variable

around £500 for NxStage.

machine delivery @ £180 with a local company

You could always give Dialytic a ring from our Company Corner page

or

You could drop Mike Brookes an email at CES who do a lot of installations.  Mike I have met and seen his team's work and it is very good.

Telephone: 01925 212206
Website: www.dialysisroomconversions.co.uk
Email: enquiries@dialysisroomconversions.co.uk  info@dialysisroomconversions.co.uk

Mike and his team usually have a stand at the National Conference every year.

BTW, CES don't do our home conversions - we have a directorate Buildings Manager that sorts it all out but if things changed we'd definitely consider CES.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the responses.

Looks like we might be going a little over board with our installs.

We currently fit full floors but I have been hoping to get this down to just a square in the dialysis area as its bumping the cost £800.

I think we have missed a trick in buying the big ticket items like pumps etc ourselves.

I've spoken to Mike in Notts who has also given me some great local knowledge.
